Skillset Scotland Profile

In Scotland, our Scottish Industry Skills Panel is responsible for guiding and supporting the work we do.

The panel means that Scotland's leading employers, trade unions, further and higher education and public agencies have a say in how we work. Their advice helps us to design ways to build the skills of the 37,000 people working in Scotland's creative media industries.

A main objective of the panel was the development of a Sector Skills Agreement for the industry, Scottish Parliament,The Scottish Governmentand other relevant public agencies and organisations to ensure that Scottish employers have the skills they need, when they need them.

A lot of work, time, research and information goes into getting our Sector Skills Agreement (SSA) for the Creative Media Industries ready.

Basically, the SSA helps us decide what needs to be done for an agreed period of time - around 3 years. By then creative media changes enough for us to start our research all over again, giving us a brand new SSA to work with for the next 3 years. We take into account how things might look in the future and what challenges could occur for everyone working in creative media. Challenges can become threats or opportunities for success.

Our job is then to work to help employees, employers, colleges, universities and trainers. We work to find ways to use, avoid, or lessen challenges that affect peoples' lives, businesses, career choices and training. New and changing technology is always on the list of issues.  Whether it's working with new equipment or learning new or improved computer packages that help you go about your work - something is always changing that affects you.
