- The audio visual workforce in Scotland accounts for 5.34% of the UK total audio visual workforce with a total of 8026 people.
- Of these over 58% are employed, with 42% freelance, compared to the national freelance proportion of a quarter.
- Around 43% (3456) of all employees and freelances in Scotland work within production or producing against a UK figure of just under 18%. Both occupational groups are heavily reliant on freelance workers - 61% and 51% of the total workforce respectively.
- New media is a strong performer in Scotland too with 9% (751) of all employees and freelances operating within this sector, although this is below the UK figure of just over 16%. Around 33% of this workforce operates on a freelance basis which is far higher than across the rest of the UK (12%).
- The representation of women across Scotland's workforce is on par with the national average of 39%. At a sub sectoral level however, significant deficiencies are evident in areas such as Lighting (4%), Sound (8%) and Broadcast Engineering (9%).
- The minority ethnic group percentage of the workforce in Scotland is 3.7% compared to a national average of 7.3% within the audio visual industries and 5.9% of the whole workforce in Scotland. However, minority ethnic groups are well represented in two particular occupational groups: Transmission (16%) and New Media (9%).
- The proportion of disabled people in Scotland's workforce is 1.3% against the national figure of 0.8%.
