The Media Academy responds to the training needs of professionals and new entrants. It provides courses taught by current freelance practitioners including Video Editing and DVD Authoring, web design, as well as print, image, audio and animation production.
An employers group provides support for the academy and includes representatives from Aardman Animations, EHS Brann, University of Gloucestershire and independent production companies. Successful past projects have received funding from The Film Council, Arts Council, local authorities, National Lottery and the LSC. Strong links are maintained with the Gloucestershire Media Group and the Gloucestershire Digital Arts Forum.
Over 300 students follow Media and Film Studies ‘A’ level courses, with pass rates of 99% over fifteen years. The BTEC National Diploma and Award in Media, specialising in video and image production, has run successfully since 1993. Students completing courses progress to a variety of highly regarded HE courses as well as achieving success in media employment and winning national video production awards.
The department has been awarded grade 1 at the last three Ofsted inspections and is recognised by the Gloucestershire Federation of Colleges as the lead College for media. Many of the core staff have recent or current industry experience. The department is in a new purpose built centre with professional level digital production and post production equipment. DVD authoring and video post production is a particular interest.
