SW - FE/HE Glos Coll of art & tech
The Gloucestershire College of Art & Technology (Gloscat) is the third largest general Further Education provider in the UK. 600 learners study vocational qualifications in arts and media up to HND level, in both Gloucester and the brand new Cheltenham campuses. The Gloucester Docklands Development will provide a new, state of the art learning environment opening in September 2007.
Gloucestershire First, Ofsted, and the QAA have recognised the quality of provision in arts and media and in 2004 Gloscat was among the first of it’s kind in Europe to be awarded Apple Authorised Training Centre status, meaning that students and professionals who enrol upon training and learning programmes are taught by enthusiastic and talented staff at the top of their profession using the latest technologies. Arts and Media resources and equipment is of a quality rare even at some universities and includes over 100 top specification Apple Macs, running applications such as Final Cut Pro, Logic, Adobe Creative Suite, and Macromedia Studio.
The emphasis of all courses is to provide real-world training for the creative industries, through ‘live’ (real world) briefs, guest speaker programmes, and work experience with high profile employers. All teaching staff have recent or current industry experience and professional qualifications. Companies who arts and media students have worked with include;
Yellow Shark Recording Studios, Forest of Dean Radio, Severn Sound, The Everyman Theatre, Gloucester Guild Hall, Central TV, RDF Media, Silver, Gloucestershire Dance, Sound on Sound magazine, Gloucester Rugby Club Motion Analysis Unit, Music Culture Development Project, Thin White, Spirax-Sarco, Star FM etc
Students graduating from courses up to degree level go on to achieve success and employment across a variety of fields such as art and design, video, film, tv, radio, web design, spatial design, performing arts, audio and music industries. One such graduate, Graham Dodridge, owner of a hugely successful new-media branding group, offers a highly prized work placement opportunity and guest lecture programme to HND Graphics/Multimedia students to bring that companies’ commercial experience into the classroom. This is best practice at today’s leading training providers, amongst which Gloscat is building an enviable reputation.
Birgitte Aga (Director, Submerge 2005) said: "The Gloscat master classes in Logic and Final Cut Pro at the Submerge Exhibition 2005 provided both our FE and HE graduates as well as our creative industries representatives with professional and skilled training of cutting edge Apple technology and digital media software. Gloscat is the essential Apple training provider in the South West and taking the lead on training of tomorrow’s creative talent."
