The Mediacove is a project led by the City of Wolverhampton College in partnership with Sandwell College.
City of Wolverhampton College and Sandwell College have been granted the first stage of Centre of Vocational Excellence (CoVE) status for the creative Industries. This new centre forms a Black Country learning hub with high quality technical facilities for training in journalism, media, music, television, multi-media, animation and photography. All this is part of a £100 million government programme designed to foster high quality training and education in specialist areas.

Music and Radio
Lakeside Studios at the Smethwick campus has professional multi-track studios, radio studios, TV and video facilities, using both analogue and digital technology.
Students gain knowledge in all aspects of music production including recording and mixing, radio production in terms of recording, editing and transmission, TV camera and editing skills, and live production techniques. These production skills are supplemented by the principles and applications of technology used in production. Former students are employed in recording studios, TV and video studios, production houses, post-production and live music.
Video
The video production facilities at the School of Media have recently been fully refurbished with air-conditioned studios and editing facilities. State of the art digital video production kit has also been purchased.

The photo-imaging section operates from a dedicated suite of studios, computer labs and darkrooms at the West Bromwich campus.
Courses are available in photography, digital imaging, multimedia and design at a variety of levels, from one-day taster courses through to full-time BTEC and Higher National Diplomas.

Links with the creative industry.
Students benefit from the well developed links the CoVE has fostered with the creative industry locally. For example, The Light House www.light-house.co.uK provides specialised animation tuition (for BTEC ND) as well as work experience. WRCT (Wolverhampton Community Radio Training Limited) www.wcrt.co.uk provides 24/7 radio programming for the college radio station (web and AM) and work based learning opportunities. WCRT has recently started running a radio production skills course for volunteers. For further information tel WCRT on 01902 572260.
WCR1350 is the CoVE's own radio station, broadcasting to the Paget road Campus on 1350AM medium wave and via the internet from the CoVE website. www.mediacove.com
