Propeller

Propeller: a new TV dimension

Since its launch in February 2006, propeller's programming has become widely regarded as among the most creative on the Sky platform showcasing raw, edgy and challenging television.  This is also broadcasting with a purpose and the channel is committed to providing a comprehensive resource for education and professional development, creating jobs and opportunities for anyone with the desire to work in the film and television industry.

An initial £5.2million of national and regional investment from Yorkshire Forward, the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) and the Higher Education Funding Council (HEFCE) has secured Phase 1 of the channel's growth to 2009.  Further strategic guidance and support from Skillset has seen the channel take the leading role in showcasing the quality work of new and emerging film talent.

Propeller TV is a not-for-profit organisation that reinvests any income it generates back into schemes that support new talent and is under the scrutiny of the UK Film Council and Skillset in this role.

Vision
Propeller is about giving an airing to the best new film and television talent that has attained a professinal skills level and broadcast quality.  We ensure that we support all our producers to work to OFCOM guidelines and always insist on protecting the intellectual property and commercial rights of the originators.

Delivering Excellence
Only about 1 in 10 of the films submitted to the channel are broadcast.  Rather than just rejecting work however, propeller endeavours to help the filmmaker develop a viable and broadcastable product by developing their skills, production knowledge and programme making expertise.
